This is a superb quality wheel bolt, finished to original Mercedes-Benz specifications. You will not find a better wheel bolt for your Mercedes SL R107 or SLC, and these have been long since discontinued by Mercedes-Benz themselves.
This wheel bolt is suitable for all variants of SL and SLC, all engines and all years.
To make this part, we sent an original wheel bolt for tensile testing and found that they had a tensile steel strength of 10.9. Most aftermarket wheel bolts do not reach this high grade - although this grade of material is obtainable via the aerospace industry it does come with very high costs.
The most common and widely used method is to use a base material that can be hardened and tempered to achieve this grade.
A193 B7 is our starting point. This 25mm diameter bar is easily capable of being heat treated to grade 10.9 and above and can achieve pressures up to 1040 PSI.
The raw material is machined by a state of the art ‘Star sliding head machine’, which ensures consistency of the wheel bolts and uniformity of the batch.
They come from these machines as a blank, with all operations complete including milling of the hexagon and all turned diameters, the thread is then produced M14 X 1.5p, this is done by the rolling method, to give the strongest possible thread, exactly as the original bolt .
From here the bolts go to be heat treated and tempered to achieve the grade 10.9. The bolts will be tested in the lab and a certificate will be issued with the job.
Then it’s to the polishers to have the face of the heads mirror polished to give a quality finish ready for bright zinc plating, an essential operation on any heat treated part. Finally, it is ready for the last inspection which means it is ready for the shelf.

Why do I need it?
Your wheel bolts are most likely as old as your car, meaning even the ‘newest’ 107 SL’s are now 30 years old. Over time, the bolts can degrade and lose their shine. These wheel bolts are the ultimate replacements.
What are my options?
Unfortunately as these bolts have been discontinued by Mercedes-Benz, until our premium wheel bolt was produced the only option was after-market bolts with a 'Dimpled' face.
